The only light that shines
Glows from the window next door
Are you too, awake in sorrow, my friend?
If only my thoughts would drift
Gently, quietly, as
Cats, silent as they pad through the nights soft hours
But, all too familiar this four lane highway
Circling through the same impoverished terrain
Each thought a billboard, posted too long
The corners fraying, the graffiti dull
Yet my eyes cannot miss its message
Haven't I see it somewhere before?
Wandering from corner to corner
Unable to wait for sunrise
To share dawn with the songs of the birds
Take comfort in the glow from my neighbors' window
Float on gentle waves of certainty
That morning brings new colors, new breath
I can wait.
Glows from the window next door
Are you too, awake in sorrow, my friend?
If only my thoughts would drift
Gently, quietly, as
Cats, silent as they pad through the nights soft hours
But, all too familiar this four lane highway
Circling through the same impoverished terrain
Each thought a billboard, posted too long
The corners fraying, the graffiti dull
Yet my eyes cannot miss its message
Haven't I see it somewhere before?
Wandering from corner to corner
Unable to wait for sunrise
To share dawn with the songs of the birds
Take comfort in the glow from my neighbors' window
Float on gentle waves of certainty
That morning brings new colors, new breath
I can wait.
